Background Info/ Historical Story:

“The Froid and Culbertson-Bainville Soil Conservation Districts were organized in 1941. Together they cover all of Roosevelt County and operating jointly, are doing business as the Roosevelt County Soil Conservation Districts. The office is in the County building in Culbertson. The districts have ten supervisors that are elected every three years by the farmers. The objectives of the Soil Conservation Districts and theSoil Conservation Service are the control and prevention of soil erosion, the conservation of both soil and water, the utilization of all resources in their maximum sustained use. These practices included about 0 percent of the cropland "strip cropped" for erosion control and about 6000 acres in contour strip cropping, stubble mulch control, 690 acres of grass waterways, over 600 reservoirs and stockwater dams, 500 acres of trees planted for shelterbelts, many Great Plains projects of fencing , well drilling etc. Numerous other kinds of projects include wildlife area improvements , land leveling, range and pasture seeding, field windbreaks, drainage improvements, rock pile burials and improved water application. Joyce Luebke is the heavy equipment operator. With the drought of the 30's behind us, and a new generation of farmers, many of the contoured fields have been re-aligned into wide strips or block farming.”- Roosevelt County’s Treasured Years
